Yeah the switch to the high fantasy part shocks me as much as it shocks Myne, such a contrast! Anyway, am I understand correctly that Myne move from one adopted family to another, higher noble rank family? I remember her former adopted father was Karstedt or something, definitely not the blue hair guy. I can't believe I'm struggle to remember character when the show's first season stay mostly in a small dark room with only a few people.

Alright, episode 3 is better in pacing and direction especially direction. Pacing is still fast and we skip the chef subplot (a shame) but I like it, I hope they just add dialogue about her recovery when she talk with wilfierd though because they skip it There are some cost cutting scene but it's ok, the music placement need to be improved. Best episode so far in term of adaptation, I'm glad it's not as bad as episode 1-2. Looks like this season will be ok adaptation. One thing that they nail about the adaptation is how they adapt the formal scene which is amazing, I'm grinning when wilma start playing harspiel. Also they didn't skip Eckhart wife and Bridgette engagement so it's a plus. Biased review : 5/5

@phantomfandom the idea is, Karstedt is now officially her father by blood, NOT an adoptive father. Myne the commoner, daughter of Effa and Gunther, died, and Rozemyne has "always been Karstedt's daughter, put in the church to protect her until she's 7, because of her quantity of mana being particularly high for her family" (this is not unheard of btw. Lady Christine, former blue robe and former master of two of Myne's church attendants, was put there for a relatively similar reason by her family AFAIK). Note that Rozemyne's mother has been also been officially announced, but there's a catch. Due to her name, many peoples are assuming that she's the daughter of Karstedt's deceased 3rd wife, Rozemary. And it'd make sense, considering the bad blood between the various wives of Karstedt, that Rozemyne would be put in the church to protect her after Rozemary's death. However, his first wife, Elvira, is officially claiming she's her daughter by blood, and that claim is officially supported by Karstedt, so the peoples from Rozemary's family who'd really, really like that daughter to be from Rozemary (because of the influence gained from having someone of your family as an Archduke candidate), can't really say it out loud nor benefit from gained influence. So what many nobles are thinking is "in truth, the reason we never heard about Rozemyne is because she's Rozemary's daughter; but in order to not cause problems inside their house / change the noble power balance, they're officially pretending they're Elvira's daughter". They can't prove it though, so the official version stays as such. It's pretty clever as it's reinforcing by a lot the probability that "myne was an Archnoble all along, we just didn't know it" in their eyes compared to naming Rozemyne with a name that has not "Roze" in it. Meanwhile, Sylvester and Lucrecia are adopting Rozemyne officially now that she's 7. HOWEVER, the adoption here is a very special one. It's not like it severs the link between Karstedt's family and Rozemyne. In this world, Archdukes will officially adopt very promising children with very high amount of mana to make them CANDIDATE to becoming Archduke themselves, even if they have children. This will make the adopted children allowed to receive Archduke level education (including things that other nobles are banned to learn) even if they end up not becoming Archdukes themselves, as well as make them potential very good suitors for actual Archdukes (from that duchy or another). "Archduke candidate' is basically a special level of nobles, that is just below Archdukes and higher than Archnobles. Note that, contrary to a regular adoption, an archduke candidate can return to their former status and the adoption removed. Either because they did something bad, or because they want it, or because of a situation change. It's fairly common, and it's still a win for the Archduke candidate and their blood family since they benefited from the education and prestige. There is generally no disgrace in moving back from Archduke Candidate to Archnoble as an adult, AFAIK (if you were adopted into it to begin with, obviously). We'll see more of it as the time goes, but the idea here is really that Karstedt's family is STILL Rozemyne's real family despite the adoption making her an Archduke candidate like the kids of Sylvester.

The series is finally staring the slow down. And this is the first actually good episode. Although it sill feels like we are skipping things and rushing through. And I haven't even read the source material. Absolutely love the first 3 seasons, so it is a shame that they are in such a hurry. The first 3 episodes could easily have been 5 or 6 instead.

@MagnusSE As a source reader myself, I can't blame them for this pace, because they only have 24 eps for 5 volumes. And bookworm volumes are way too long compared to normal LNs. As an example, usual LNs average around 50-60k words, while bookworm averages around 90k. So my only real complaint is making such a big deal in ep 1 cliffhanger, and leaving non ln readers hanging. Outside of that, the adaptation is positive overall imo.

- Angelica is Touyama Nao!!!!!!! Less gooo~!!!!! - Ferdinand's favorite dish: Consome soup I have several gripe on this EP (minor details that conflicts the LN): - During the entwickeln (the erection of Hasse's monastery), Ferdinand mentioned the God's of Darkness name OUTLOUD!!!! That SHOULD NEVER happen!!!!! It was FORBIDDEN to do so!!!! You can only mentioned the God of Darkness and Goddess of Light's names while whispering (for reasons anime only audience wouldn't even learn until Book 5 got adapted). - In a situation where several ppl are greeting a superior for the first time, ONLY the leader should be providing blessings. In the case of Otilie and Ryhyarda greeting Rozemyne, Ryhyarda should be the ONLY one giving out blessings.

Excellent episode, Ferdinand is clearly a culinary connoisseur. Regarding "Entwickeln," it may not always be so, but it's simply a simplification in the adaptation. It's clear that, as written in the original, it's just a bare frame, and windows and doors with furniture are already a separate topic, but it's very rare when such a detailed adaptation is made. In the previous season, by the way, there was also an example in the form of Okiraku Ryoushu no Tanoshii Ryouchi Bouei, when in the adaptation the heroes did everything at once, but in the original, the furniture was created separately.

@MGrid That is just an explanation of what they did. They did not have to limit it down to 24 episodes for 5 volumes from a creative perspective. And that is what I do not like. For example they could have done 3x12 episodes. These days there are plenty of series that do not stick to the traditional season lengths. There might be a financial reason and that it is this or nothing. I rather have something. But I do not like it. Generally how anime is licensed and produced is an issue that affects more than this series. How they handled the cliffhanger is just bad.

@MagnusSE I agree on the cliffhanger, I don't get the logic of doing it like that if they won't explain it. They could have even given the explanation in the chibi moment, since they do give you actual info from the ln there. That was just bad planning. On the eps count, nah 24 episode was always gonna be the max. It does make it rushed but they can cover most important parts. But most importantly what follows is part 4 which they already teased that when they were promoting bookworm last year. Part 4 is the moment bookworm ln boomed in popularity in Japan so no wonder they want to get to it as fast as possible.

Alright episode, probably the best episode of the three so far. It definitely has its flaws with how trimmed it felt where there was less room for scenes to breathe and more exposition, but at least they didn't do too much at once. For an anime adaptation that has always had pacing issues due to how the novels are written not translating smoothly to anime, at least this felt easier to follow than the previous two episodes. It doesn't feel as effective or the interactions don't have the soul that the books had, but you still could identify the characters and what is happening. Coincidentally, it did have the most laid-back feel story-wise compared to Rozemyne seeing her old family again or just fully adapting to a whole new society, as she was just meeting her new attendants, did a quick Starbind ceremony again, try out some food and see a monastery be built in minutes. Sounds like a bit on paper, but the amount would've been doubled or tripled with the other episodes. So in the end, can say the episode didn't have the highs of the previous two, but it actually felt like an episode and not just a quickfire compilation of a million things happening. I do think the rest of the volume will be paced (next 2 episodes). My favorite part as a source reader for this episode was just seeing Angelica. I really hope the anime can give her enough screentime here and there, since she is one of my favorite characters from the books to follow. It was visually really nice to see how the entwickeln (the magic used to create the monastery) worked. Seeing the aub just wield creation magic like that for building something like that was dope. Makes life so much easier when only the interiors need to be handled. The cliffhanger with Rozemyne passing out through Wilfried running around with her was addressed, but in a very anticlimactic-way for most anime-only fans. It's why I believe they didn't need to go over-the-top with it in the first episode. I wish the series spent a bit more time truly going through the food visually, felt like the consomme was the only real thing that got a bit of focus, but it was something that Ferdinand actually loved more than he ever would have expected, so maybe that was why. And finally, some background information given about Eckhart and Brigitte and their complicated situations during the Starbind Ceremony was nice and quite sad in their own ways. Would have liked to see Damuel there briefly just striking out.

@otakuweek It will simply take her a moment before she finds her way in the new reality. Maybe the anime doesn’t show it very well, especially at the beginning, but she was actually going through the separation from her family more deeply and the closing of a certain chapter in her life.

I’m still waiting on that cliffhanger to be addressed..I guess the most they’re giving us is just that brief apology from the brother, but I wanted to see the immediate aftermath.. anyway, seeing Myne get the royal treatment today and officially become a princess felt surreal as someone who’s been here from the beginning. Our girl just wanted access to the library and now she’s one of the most important people in the kingdom. I’m personally enjoying the pacing of this arc so far and how we’re seeing Myne transition to this new phase of her life. It’s important to lay the foundation well here so that the big set pieces hit later on. Similar to rudeus settling in with eris family in Mushoku. Seeing Ferdinand’s monastery spell was dope as well. It just feels really good to have a bookworm season with actually good production values now.

@Marinate1016 It was addressed, just very weakly that it feels super anti-climactic. Wilfried apologizing was the payoff for that. The anime could have shown a frame or two of a flashback to Rozemyne passing out and then resting weakly in a bed but it is what it is. Wilfried looked nervous around her so he did recognize what he was responsible for. In the books at least, Ferdinand kind of let it all happen the way it did from what I remember, since it was better for Wilfried to learn the hard way like this, to be careful with her as soon as possible from thereon.

I have several gripe on this EP (minor details that conflicts the LN):
- During the entwickeln (the erection of Hasse's monastery), Ferdinand mentioned the God's of Darkness name OUTLOUD!!!!

@DUN_ @uncleqrow In the books, Rozemyne was far away so she could not hear what he was reciting like in the anime. But I'm pretty sure that for the entwickeln, it was important for that to be stated for the whole process to work. The anime shows more than just Rozemyne's perspective as it shows angles focused on different characters and actions, and they showed what Ferdinand was reciting compared to what Rozemyne followed in the novel at this stage. Now the anime could have cut away from him saying the name since they did make a cut to Rozemyne and Sylvester anyway, but him saying it objectively makes sense.

@animejas Well, it’s not like this is a rule made by the gods. Their name should be different for everyone, so the name we know and use in this episode is the one Rozemyne will learn in the future. I don’t know if the author has said anything about Ferdinand’s case—he may have given the same names for the gods, though.

Not a fan of just conjuring a building with magic. I like the series for its relatively grounded world that had rules and limitations. This was much too convenient. I also don't like how the season introduced so many new characters all at once, and refused to build them up at all. I don't have a clue about who's who and who's related to whom. And did we need to meet so many of them? Why are there like 4-5 knight guard characters?

@perseii There are knights for the castle who are mednoble/archnoble retainers, so medium-to-high status nobles, and knights who are lower in standing. Brigitte is someone who can go to the temple because she was willing to do so, she needed the job to protect her family and it was a willing compromise given her standing being low after her engagement fell off earlier. And Damuel was someone who already has his 'punishment' be Myne's guard knight from before she was a noble. His standing is still a work-in-progress, and he is already comfortable going to the temple compared to Cornelius and Angelica. The temple is viewed negatively still. So different environments, situations and power structures. She is an archduke candidate and there are a lot of politics and factions which will come around, so the more retainers and knights, the better for safety. There are only more people to come, number does not get small.

@DUN_ It is a bit too spoilery since this is covered in Part 5 but I'm pretty sure that issue has been alluded to down the line regarding the names part. I do think the anime had the choice to not show it at all, it's not like they were forced to show what Ferdinand said. But what Ferdinand was performing wasn't inaccurate either from what I recall.

@MarcioNeves I mean, other titles would be stoopid enough to treat the all OP skills appraisal, heal, and alchemy as useless as well just to justify their plot... what's ur point bro? wwwwwwww

animejas said: Brigitte is someone who can go to the temple because she was willing to do so Thanks for the explanation, but the problem is I don't even know which one Brigitte is. I think you're talking about the redhead who was all alone at the ball. I know that all these character were introduced with cue cards and all, but I don't know these people (yet), they can't expect me to remember all of them. They haven't done anything interesting, and Myne has never really interacted with them in any meaningful way. I also understand the in-universe reasoning for having so many knights and nobles around, but I wish the anime still put in some effort to allow the characters to stand out and actually "do stuff" to make them more memorable. And maybe spread out the introductions a bit. The most interesting new character so far is the old lady, because she looks different from the rest, and has an amusing dynamic with the high priest. Unfortunately, as it stands, everyone else just feels like a bunch of NPCs in armor or in robes. I expect they'll be fleshed out more over time, but it's a disorienting start. |

From painstaking process of DIYing modern tech into a down to earth and relatively realistic fantasy-adjacent world – to express winged lion taxis and conveniently magicking whole buildings into existence in a minute. The visuals may be glossier and prettier than old Ajia-do seasons, but what's inside leaves me disappointed and bored. Feels like the new production team was just going through the motions without any care for or interest in the source material.

The magic of this show is expanding more and more, and I don't know how to feel about the new part of the show. I honestly liked the first few seasons where Myne would bring in things from Earth to this new world, plus the family aspect of things and the relationships she built. It just kind of feels like her life as noble isn't really that rewarding, and maybe this might be the whole point of this part, but it just kind of feels superficial. A good example of this is at the Star-Binding Ceremony, when people do not want to talk to Brigitte because they think she will not be a suited as a bride because of what happened in the past. Even with Ferdinand no one wanting to talk to him. It's just like if you have no purpose what is the point of your existence. But hey the part just started lets see where it will take us from here.

It will simply take her a moment before she finds her way in the new reality. Maybe the anime doesn’t show it very well, especially at the beginning, but she was actually going through the separation from her family more deeply and the closing of a certain chapter in her life.

@Otaku-Aniki That's what I wanted to see, more struggle etc it's not bad, but I was surprised when I started the anime that it was deeper than what I was expecting the scene when she saw her mum etc was one of the best for me, really deep For the moment, she knows that it was the best decision for her family even if it's not that easy to get use to this new life... she care less about reading for the moment...

The noble and their obsession with baptism, poor kids aren't even considered part of the family until then, the magic keeps expanding each episode but considering how dangerous was a tree (Trombe) who knows what's going to show up going forward. It seems that lady is so far the most powerful character yet, not even Ferdinand could put any sort of resistance against her haha.
